BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) (NYSE: BDX), a US-based global medical technology company, announced on Tuesday that it has named Ronald (Ron) Silverman, MD, FACS as its new executive vice president and chief medical officer effective 4 December 2023.

In the new role, Dr Silverman will be responsible for heading the firm's Medical Affairs organisation, which includes end-to-end medical affairs across the company's business units, regions and central team. He will use medical insights and expertise to advance the company's range of clinically relevant, innovative solutions that align with evolving patient requirements, while also contributing to the safety and compliance of the company's in-market range of products. He will report to Beth McCombs, executive vice president and chief technology officer for BD, and serve as a member of the BD Executive Leadership Team.

Dr Silverman has served at 3M Health Care as senior vice president and chief medical officer. He has earlier headed Medical and Clinical Affairs teams for multiple business units within 3M, which includes KCI Corporation, Acelity Corporation, 3M Health Care Medical Solutions Division. He has served as chief of plastic surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center and continues to hold academic appointments at both the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins schools of medicine.
