Biotechnology company Lakewood-Amedex Biotherapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: LABT) announced on Monday that it has secured a new composition of matter patent from IP Australia covering its Bisphosphocin compounds, strengthening its global intellectual property position in the development of novel antimicrobial therapies.
Titled "Antimicrobial Compounds, Compositions, and Uses Thereof," the patent protects a class of fast-acting, broad-spectrum antimicrobials being developed for high-need infectious diseases, including complicated urinary tract infections and pulmonary infections. The company said the issuance supports continued pipeline expansion and reinforces its international IP strategy.
The approval further broadens Lakewood-Amedex's intellectual property footprint, which now includes 72 granted patents and 29 pending applications across major jurisdictions including the United States, Europe, China, Japan, India and the United Kingdom.
Bisphosphocin compounds are being developed to address antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections such as MRSA and VRE, positioning the programme within the broader global effort to combat antimicrobial resistance.
