Pharmaceutical research and development company AbbVie (NYSE: ABBV) reported on Monday that its investigational dual-targeting therapy ABBV-466 achieved higher endoscopic remission rates than either anti-IL-23 or anti-α4β7 monotherapy in patients with moderate to severe Crohn's disease in the Phase IIa TARGET-CD study. At Week 12, remission rates were 30.2% for ABBV-466, compared with 21.3% for risankizumab and 18.0% for trosunilimab. By Week 24, the respective rates were 40.5%, 22.4% and 20.0%.
The study involved 300 patients, 75% of whom had failed at least one advanced therapy. Gene expression analysis indicated intestinal tissue repair and restoration of the gut barrier by Week 12, followed by tissue remodelling and metabolic changes at Week 24. Serious adverse event rates were comparable across the three treatment groups.
AbbVie will present the findings as a late-breaking abstract at United European Gastroenterology Week 2026 in Barcelona on 19 October. ABBV-466 combines risankizumab, an IL-23 inhibitor, with trosunilimab, an α4β7 inhibitor, to target complementary drivers of inflammation. Its safety and efficacy have not yet been established by regulatory authorities.
