Swedish pharmaceutical company AcuCort AB (Spotlight Stock Market: ACUC), developer of the rapidly dissolving dexamethasone oral film Zeqmelit, on Tuesday announced that it has published results from its Phase IV study in the Journal of Market Access & Health Policy.
The peer-reviewed study reports positive patient experiences with the oral film for moderate to severe acute allergic reactions, particularly regarding accessibility, confidence and perceived effectiveness.
ZEQ001, an open-label, low-intervention study, followed 50 patients over six months in a real-world clinical setting, with 44 completing the trial. Participants compared their experiences using Zeqmelit with previously prescribed betamethasone tablets, and the findings indicate that the oral film formulation may help ensure treatment is available when needed.
Patients reported high satisfaction with Zeqmelit's availability, with 98% satisfied or very satisfied compared with 58% for tablets. 77% of participants carried the oral film more often, and 78% reported feeling more secure when they had access to it.
In 16 of 18 reported acute allergic reactions, patients chose Zeqmelit, and 94% rated its effectiveness as good or very good. AcuCort said that a clear majority preferred the oral film for future treatment, with 24% saying they felt more secure and less likely to avoid certain situations when it was available.
