Roche expands cyclospora testing portfolio to support US public health response
6 August 2026 -

Swiss biotechnology company Roche (SIX: RO, ROG; OTCQX: RHHBY), in collaboration with subsidiary TIB MOLBIOL, announced on Thursday the launch of two new real-time PCR tests to help laboratories detect the Cyclospora cayetanensis parasite during the ongoing US outbreak.

The new research-use-only testing options expand Roche's cyclospora portfolio with flexible and cost-effective solutions designed for different laboratory needs.

The LightMix Modular Cyclospora assay is for the specific detection of cyclospora only using hydrolysis probe chemistry, while the LightMix OneTube Gastro Para 2 assay provides multiplex detection of several gastrointestinal pathogens, including Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia, Dientamoeba fragilis, Cryptosporidium, Blastocystis and Cyclospora cayetanensis.

Both tests are compatible with LightCycler 480 and LightCycler PRO instruments. They complement the existing UC-TIB-Gastro-PARA-2 assay used with cobas 5800, 6800 and 8800 systems to detect Dientamoeba fragilis, Blastocystis hominis and Cyclospora cayetanensis in a single reaction.

Roche said the expanded portfolio supports public health efforts by providing healthcare systems with additional tools to detect and manage infectious disease threats.
