Shareholder proposal at Moderna for transfer of COVID-19 vaccine production to less developed countries wins 24% support
29 April 2022 -

A shareholder proposal calling on US pharmaceutical company Moderna Inc (Nasdaq:MRNA) to study transferring production of COVID-19 vaccines to less-developed countries won 24% support from investors, Reuters news agency reported on Friday.

This comes after it received a rare endorsement from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus had called on shareholders to vote for the measure at Moderna, the first such investor advocacy by the UN health agency.

Proponents of the proposal said that production shifts could help combat the global pandemic.

This resolution was part of a continuing debate over how to accelerate COVID-19 vaccine production in developing countries, where vaccination rates have lagged far behind wealthy countries.
