18 June 2021 -

Taiwan will receive a further 240,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses from US pharmaceutical company Moderna Inc (Nasdaq: MRNA) on 18 June 2021 afternoon, Reuters news agency reported on Friday.

This is expected to boost up Taiwan's vaccination programme.

Taiwan has already received and has started administering 150,000 Moderna shots and has around five million on order.

Half of Taiwan's 20 million COVID-19 dose order is with British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca Plc (LON:AZN) which have been slow to arrive.

Vaccine orders have been reportedly delayed by global shortages.

Taiwan had however received an additional 1.24 million AstraZeneca COVID-19 doses donated by Japan this month.

So far, only around 5% of Taiwan's 23.5 million people have received at least one COVID-19 shot so far, Reuters added.
