UK to offer people over 50 years of age third COVID-19 vaccine shot in autumn
5 May 2021 -

According to a report in UK's The Times newspaper, everyone aged over 50 years in UK will be offered a third COVID-19 vaccination jab in autumn 2021 in an attempt to eradicate the threat from the infection entirely by Christmas 2021, Reuters news agency reported on Wednesday.

The newspaper said that trials of two options are under way, supervised by Chris Whitty, the chief medical officer for England.

Reportedly, the first involves vaccines specifically modified to tackle new variants. The second is for a third shot of one of the three COVID-19 vaccine versions already in use, namely Pfizer(NYSE:PFE.N)-BioNTech(Nasdaq:BNTX), Oxford-AstraZeneca (LON:AZN) or Moderna (Nasdaq: MRNA).

UK government statistics revealed on Tuesday that a total of over 34.6 million people in UK have been given a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
