The president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, has said that the country is sticking to its plan to package domestically the Russian COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V because health matters are separate from political conflicts, Reuters news agency reported on Wednesday.
In October 2021, state-run vaccine company Birmex had signed an agreement with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which markets Sputnik V, to package the product in Mexico.
The president speaking at a regular news conference said: "We're going to continue with our plan, commitments made are kept", adding, "Health has nothing to do with political conflicts."
Obrador has ruled out imposing economic sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, Reuters added.
