Biotechnology company Anixa Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ: ANIX) reported on Monday that it has received a Notice of Allowance from the Canadian Intellectual Property Office for a patent covering key aspects of its ovarian cancer vaccine technology, strengthening international protection for the programme.
Exclusively licensed from the Cleveland Clinic, the patent covers methods of administering an immunogenic composition containing a nucleic acid encoding the anti-Müllerian hormone receptor 2 (AMHR2) polypeptide to generate an AMHR2-specific immune response for the prevention or treatment of ovarian cancer.
This vaccine, being developed through a collaboration between the Cleveland Clinic and the National Cancer Institute, is aimed at preventing and treating ovarian cancer, particularly in high-risk individuals, including those with BRCA mutations or a family history of the disease.
The Canadian allowance expands Anixa's intellectual property portfolio and complements existing US protection. In July 2025, the company received US Patent No. 12,357,593 covering methods of eliciting an immune response targeting AMHR2.
Anixa said the expanded patent protection supports its broader international intellectual property strategy and strengthens the foundation for future clinical, regulatory and commercial development opportunities for its cancer vaccine programmes.
