Swedish pharmaceutical company EQL Pharma AB (STO: EQL) announced on Wednesday that it has licensed its methenamine hippurate product Memprex for sale in Hungary through local pharmaceutical company Pharmacenter, which develops and commercialises its own and in-licensed medicines with a focus on oncology, urology and hospital products.
Memprex is a 1-gram methenamine hippurate tablet indicated for prophylactic use, mainly in women with recurrent urinary tract infections. It is taken twice daily, including when patients show no symptoms.
Hungary has a population of about 9.5 million. For comparison, Sweden, with 10.7 million people, recorded pharmacy sales of methenamine hippurate of nearly SEK20m in 2025. Hungary currently has no methenamine hippurate treatments, and Memprex offers an alternative, non-antibiotic option for patients with recurring urinary tract infections.
Pharmacenter will pay EQL a five-figure EUR sum across three milestones, subject to agreed sales, and will receive supply at a transfer price.
