Canadian life sciences company Ondine Biomedical Inc. (AIM: OBI) reported on Wednesday that five Southern Ontario hospitals are deploying the company's Steriwave nasal photodisinfection across approximately 5,000 annual orthopaedic and spine procedures. The hospitals collectively serve more than 3 million people and are expected to use Steriwave for about 4,300 hip and knee replacements and 700 spine procedures each year.

Steriwave uses a non-antibiotic, light-activated treatment to reduce nasal pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA, shortly before surgery. The deployments aim to support infection prevention and reduce the risk of surgical site infections.

This expansion follows positive topline results from Ondine's 5,188-patient LANTERN Phase 3 trial in the US and Canada, which met its primary efficacy endpoint. Detailed analysis of the dataset is ongoing.

The deployments add to Steriwave's growing use in Canadian hospitals and support Ondine's strategy of expanding adoption across surgical pathways, hospital sites and patient populations.
