Astorg completes acquisition of Thermo Fisher Scientific's microbiology business

Private equity firm Astorg announced on Wednesday that it has completed its acquisition of the global microbiology business of life science and clinical research company Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc (NYSE:TMO), establishing an independent company focused on microbiology diagnostics.

The business will operate independently under CEO Dirk Bontridder and is expected to launch under a new corporate brand later in 2026.

The company provides diagnostic consumables and equipment for microbiological testing across clinical, food safety and pharmaceutical markets, serving more than 15,000 customers in more than 100 countries. It employs approximately 2,400 people across 13 manufacturing and research and development sites worldwide.

Thermo Fisher said the business generated USD645m in revenue in 2025 and was part of its Specialty Diagnostics segment.

The transaction consideration was approximately USD1.075bn, comprising cash and a USD50m seller note.
