IBA launches Cyclone iKure for industrial-scale Astatine-211 production
1 June 2026 -

Particle accelerator technology company Ion Beam Applications S.A. (IBA) (Euronext Brussels:IBAB) announced on Monday the launch of Cyclone iKure, a dedicated cyclotron designed for routine production of Astatine-211 (At-211) to support clinical-scale targeted alpha therapy programmes.

The system is intended for radiopharmaceutical manufacturers, research institutions and healthcare providers seeking to expand access to targeted alpha therapies.

Cyclone iKure is designed specifically for At-211 isotope workflows and engineered to deliver consistent, high-yield output at production scale. The company said automated processes simplify daily operations and reduce operator radiation exposure, while the compact design lowers site preparation complexity and cost.

Targeted alpha therapy is an emerging area in precision oncology, with At-211 drawing attention for its chemical properties and half-life, although wider adoption has been constrained by limited production infrastructure. IBA said Cyclone iKure is designed to address this challenge by providing reliable production capacity at scale. The system is designed to meet applicable CE marking requirements and regulatory compliance standards.

The launch builds on IBA's four decades of cyclotron engineering and expands its portfolio from diagnostic PET and SPECT imaging into therapeutic alpha-isotope production.
