Exact Sciences Names Dr. Paul Limburg as Co-Chief Medical Officer
7 March 2018 - - US-based molecular diagnostics company Exact Sciences Corp. (NASDAQ: EXAS) has appointed Paul J. Limburg, M.D., M.P.H. as its co-chief medical officer, the company said.
Limburg is a gastroenterologist and a professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic. He is also a co-leader of the Cancer Prevention and Control program within Mayo Clinic Cancer Center.
While at Mayo Clinic, Limburg has served as medical director of Mayo Clinic global business solutions, which delivers products and services that extend Mayo Clinic's specialized clinical knowledge and expertise worldwide. He also served as medical director of several of Mayo Clinic's health and well-being programs.
At Exact Sciences, Limburg will assess research opportunities to inform, expand and accelerate the adoption of effective colon cancer screening options, such as Cologuard. Cologuard is indicated to screen adults of either sex, 50 years or older, who are at average risk for colorectal cancer.
He will continue to serve as a gastroenterologist with Mayo Clinic's Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, co-leader of the Cancer Prevention and Control program within Mayo Clinic Cancer Center, and principal investigator for the NCI-funded cancer prevention network clinical trials consortium..
Limburg earned a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Augustana College, a Doctor of Medicine from Mayo Medical School, and Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.
He completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship training at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. Limburg also completed an advanced fellowship in preventive oncology at the National Cancer Institute.
